When will V3 be implemented? It will go live on July 5 12:01AM EST.
Do you need to sign up to get V3? No - all schools are automatically upgraded as of July 5th.
Will the cost of Vidigami change with V3? No - the upgrade is included in your annual school fees.
Will past years of photos be converted to V3? What about our Rewind Years? From the Explore Tab in V3, you will be able to choose the year and see the Categories & Pages from that year. All REWIND years will be accessible from the Explore tab.
Will members still be aligned with the groups we set up previously? Yes, all roles and associated permissions will be carried over to V3. The Manager role has been divided into 2 levels in V3. By default, a V2 Manager will be assigned the V3 Content Manager Role. If a User is permitted to manage content and members on their assigned Page(s) only, that User may be provided the Content Owner role where the permission to manage Users for the Organization is removed. See details here.
Will Albums and Sets be automatically converted to Collections in V3. Yes. Albums and Sets will be referenced as Collections. Each Album shared in a V2 Group will migrate to V3 and be shared as a Collection in a V3 Page. If the Album is shared in multiple Groups in V2, that Album (now known as a Collection) will be shared in multiple Pages in V3.
Can a user be added to a Page easily as Contributor or Editor? Yes, it is easy to add an individual to a Page and / or change their roles from viewer to contributor or editor. In V3, Users may be provided a Spectator role in the system whereby they have viewing privileges by default. Within each Page, select Users may be given contribution and edit permissions just for that Page. For example, all student users may be assigned a Spectator role but within the Yearbook Club, the 15 students who are part of this group (Page) may be provided editing privileges. Higher level permissions assigned to a User will supersede lower level permissions.
VIDIGAMI V3 FEATURES
Is the portfolio still a feature? Yes, the V2 Portfolio is simply referenced in V3 as the User’s Space. This Space is personalized to each User and hosts their personal and shared Collections. It also aggregates and displays all media tagged of the User to capture and tell the story of each student’s life and school experience. Meanwhile all media where User has been tagged as a Creator will be displayed to feature their work and learning - from projects to presentations. This systematic tagging of media as they are shared into Vidigami builds a living media portfolio for every student from the day they start school until graduation.
Will there be defined Categories or will those be defined by us? Yes. V2 Categories are migrated into V3. You may choose to rename those Categories at any time. You may also create new Categories. There are no limitations to the number of Categories you can create BUT, we don’t recommend much more than 10.
Does a collection and a page have the same permissions? A Page is intended to be the place where you share your stories with a group or sub-group within the school. Each year, a Page is refreshed and new Content Owners can be assigned and new members can be added. A Collection is perpetual and belongs to one or multiple users. Users may collect media over years in their personal collection, they can collaborate to build a collection with other users and they can share their collections with specific users, groups of users or into a Page. For example, Marketing may collaborate with the department heads to share weekly highlights. Each week, the Theatre Dept Head will simply need to upload “best” pictures to the “Theatre Highlights Collection” that she wants featured in the School Newsletter. This Collection can be shared by Marketing as an embed link in the school newsletter, it can be embedded in the digital signage software that manages the display in front of the auditorium and it can be shared out in social media. Separately, the Marketing team can create a Collection called “Campus Photos” and add suitable photos in this Collection from any year to build a set of images that can be used for any marketing campaign.
So, Collections are the new sets, and Pages are the new groups? Collections replace Albums and Sets from V2. Pages are groups that are organized under Categories.
So does the end user now just get entered into the system and not associated with a particular age or group? Just like in V2, the administrators decide who can access which pages (formally groups). Each individual can then decide to personalize which of the Pages they are given access that they may want to UN-Follow. At any time, the user may re-follow or click into the Page to browse the content.
Will we be able to gather different school years to make into a slideshow. Yes, you can pull images from different years to create Collections and publish a Slideshow.
Can you upload a set directly to social media? Yes, if a user has permission within Vidigami to do this. You can share a Collection as a slideshow directly into Facebook or Twitter. Your slideshow is a highlights reel for non-members to view. Additionally, the slideshow can be removed at any time, so your photos don’t reside on social media or in the public domain longer than you want.
If I share a VIdigami link, can someone see it that does not have an account? If you have the “Public Share” permission, you can create a slideshow of any Collection and share on social media, embed on a webpage, share in a newsletter, or email out.
Can I have more than one Organization? Yes, in V3, you can create sub-organizations. This can be for summer school, lower school and upper school campuses, parent organization, and alumni. Each sub-organization can have its own colors and logo. Work with our team to discuss whether this helps you better organize your school.
Now that I can create Categories, do I have to go back and redo all past years? No. Unless you want to rename your Categories, they will remain exactly the same. If you want, you can choose to rename your Categories and add new Categories. You can move Pages from one Category to another. You can batch change the names of Categories.
Will V3 be faster? Yes, you will notice an improvement to speed with the launch of V3. Please note that functionality and performance will continuously improve this upcoming year because a lot of the technology improvements could not be introduced until we moved to the new V3 system. Please share your feedback with us promptly as we work to optimize the user experience for you and your community.
Can I tag Alumni? By default you can tag anyone that is part of Vidigami from any year. Schools can choose to limit search to the current year if they prefer. You can also create a Context Tag for users not in the Vidigami System such as guest speakers.
When I upload pictures in V3, do I create a Collection each time? There are several options in V3. You can upload directly to a Page or a Collection. If you’re undecided, your upload can remain in your personal uploads (not recommended because you don’t want to forget about them and end up with a shoebox of unorganized photos). When you upload to a Page, it’s immediately shared with everyone who is a member of that Page. This can be the entire school community. When you upload to a Collection, you can choose to share that Collection with one or multiple Pages.
Can we move photos from one group to another? Yes, you can add and remove photos easily to and from Collections and Pages. You can also share the same photo(s) to multiple Pages.
Will you be able to access Administrative functions through the Mobile App? Yes, V3 is a Progressive Web App (PWA) and provides us with the ability to offer users access to the same features and functionality on mobile and desktop.
Will there be something that pops up in the V2 app to let me know I can’t use it anymore, or will I be prompted to upgrade? Yes,
Where do we send in our branding colors and logo(s)? Each sub-organization can have their own color and their own logo. Please send your Hex-code color and Logo to: email@example.com
Will the current app continue to work in V3? No, V3 requires a new mobile app installation. Much of our constraints with V2 were related to the mobile app itself. The V2 app will be deprecated and users will be prompted to uninstall the V2 app from their mobile devices. The V3 app is a progressive web app (PWA) and users will be prompted to install the app directly from their mobile browser. Today, a notification is displayed on the web browser prompting users to install the Vidigami App. Clicking on the Install button takes the user to the AppStore on Android and iOS. To install the V3 App, users will be prompted to install the app when they come to the Vidigami website on their mobile browser. Instead of being directed to the AppStore to install, the prompt will direct the user to “Add Vidigami to Home Screen”. As a PWA, mobile operating systems will treat the installation of the App as a bookmark to a web-page on your mobile desktop and will not require users to initiate an installation from the AppStore. We will update this page with a user video for reference.
Can I tag (add information to) groups of pictures? Yes, you can easily select multiple photos and add tags to all at one time. In V3, not only will you be able to batch add context tags, you can batch add people tags to attribute “creators” to content.
Can I tag individual pictures instead of an entire Collection? Yes, you can easily tag individual photos.
If I have photos that are shared on multiple pages, will the tags follow? All tags remain across Pages and Collections, so a photo viewed on one Page will have the same tags as on another Page or Collection.
Can you tag individuals with masks? Unfortunately, that is not possible. Please encourage your community to tag the people they recognize.
If I have tagged photos that I then move to a different place will the tags follow - even if I delete the original upload? If a photo is deleted, then it is removed from Vidigami including all the places it was shared. Once a photo has tags, the tags do “follow” that picture no matter where it is shared.
Once you tag a student, is it possible for the system to recognize that student and auto tag them in other photos? By tagging a face, you are helping train the system to recognize the face. A variety of parameters impact how well an image can be used to support automated recognition. Because of this variability, it is highly recommended that you encourage your users to tag. Let them know that every photo tagged gets added to their personal collection. As the system develops confidence in recognition, it will provide updated suggestions of images it’s able to recognize with confidence.
FORMATS & INTEGRATIONS & FUTURE UPGRADES
Can you upload photos to Vidigami from Adobe Lightroom? Not yet, but V3 has been created to more easily allow integrations. This feature is on our Feature Request List.
Does the desktop version of V3 accept HEIC files? We have prioritized HEIC support immediately following the V3 release.
HEIC files are supported on iOS devices. If there is an issue, the user may need to update their Settings configuration. Here’s how [see below].
- Go to Settings > Camera.
- Tap Formats.
- Tap Most Compatible. This setting is available only on devices that can capture media in HEIF or HEVC format, and only when using iOS 11 or later.
- All new photos and videos will now use JPEG or H.264 format. To return to using the space-saving HEIF and HEVC formats, choose High Efficiency.
- Next go to “Photos” and under the ‘Transfer to Mac or PC’ section choose “Automatic” to automatically convert the HEIF images to JPEG upon file transfer
Is there (or will there be) a way to "impersonate" users or roles so that administrators can easily see what other users (with fewer rights) see? This is on our Feature Request List, but it is not yet a feature.
Have there been any improvements in the system's ability to handle video? Image and video processing has been designated as a priority after we release V3. Improvements here are on-going and can be made once we move off the V2 platform.
What about an option to crop the photo in Vidigami? Not at this time. We haven’t prioritized this because of the availability of so many photo editing tools. However, we understand the convenience of having it integrated into Vidigami. We have added this to our Feature Request List.
Does Vidigami integrate with Google Photos? The V3 mobile app will enable Vidigami to be a “destination” for how your photos can be shared from GooglePhotos. This will be part of the improvements list that we continue to rollout post the initial V3 release. This is on our Feature Request List.
Will there be easier ways to use facial recognition? Yes, we will be introducing an upgraded solution after our V3 launch.
Will there be newer training videos and materials? Yes, we are working on a new website, will be offering short tutorial online sessions, and are updating our knowledge base videos and documents. We will also be offering weekly live Interactive Tutorials+Chats on a variety of topics starting July 13.
Will there be videos and tutorials for specific groups such as parents and teachers? We are working to develop updated videos and how-to documents. We will be including information you can share with different groups including parents and teachers.
Will we be able to batch change titles of images? Is there an option to edit the file name in Vidigami? This is currently not available. Please reach out with specifically what you need.
Does everyone default to follow all pages? All pages a person has permission to view will initially be set as being followed. With a single click, they can chose to unfollow one or more Pages. (And, they can re-follow again with a single click.)
If users don’t change any of their preferences, will they follow everything? By default, all Pages an individual has access to viewing, will be part of their Feed. They can easily chose to unfollow Pages.
Does “view” access allow that user the ability to download photos? How do you turn off the ability to download? Can this be done in batch?
Yes, download can be disabled. Discuss with your client success manager.
Is there a Microsoft Extension for Vidigami? How is Vidigami integrated with PPT? Yes --- click on Add-In from M365 and Search for Vidigami. Install. Insert our video here. This integration will be re-enabled shortly after V3 is released.
We have a lot of duplicate constituents. Should we delete everybody and start again? Before you start deleting, please reach out to your Client Success Manager to help. Will you be sending out an email automatically about V3? Who will get this email? We will be sharing V3 updates through our Insider. During this time, our regularly monthly Insider will be sent out more frequently.
What date can I send in my .csv files?
Anytime. But we will not be onboarding for the new school year until mid-July.
Will the .csv files be the same format we used for V2 last year?
